"Sweetheart"- the making of a felted fiber painting
Do you know what the art vest left hand and the painting right hand have in common?
“Wondermaid”, textile painting: nunofelting, free motion embroidery, transfer, painting
The painting “Sweetheart” is made from the art vest!
The art vest turned out a little bit to small and the fact that I covered larger areas with silk fabric application made it too stiff. I never tried to sell it, still love the design on both sides. It has something whimsy and happy.
The girl in the middle of the art piece is a photo-collage-painting created digitally:
I started with a photo of my daughter, originally taken to present my wearable art in my online boutique. I mixed it with other photos and added digital painting : a piece of art in itself but as I like to express myself though textiles, this isn’t the end of the story :).
I transferred the photo on silk paper stiffened it with interlining.
While ironing the backing to the silk paper, my eyes got caught by the above art vest, waiting patiently on a hanger for its final destiny.
No fear just fun !
Taken by a sudden envy, I took a pair of scissors and started cutting out pieces and composed them around the digital print. It was one of these moments when I feel confident that everything will find it’s place.
The heart shape just appeared
When I stepped back I was myself surprised of what had came out: The shape and the design made me think of a heart, the nest and the storch are obvious elements of birth and motherhood. Last but not least my daughter had become a whimsy mermaid.
(Gosh didn’t it seems I’m dealing with the fact that my daughter probably will soon leave the nest! )
I joint the pieces by free motion embroidery and finally applied paints to reinforce the enchanted aspect and five it a more painterly look. I feel the paint connects the different medias.
Now I will have to decide whether and how to frame it!
